Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 15/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Strong wind warning for coastal waters Torres Strait to Cooktown. STATE FORECAST for Saturday Cool to cold at first over southern inland parts with areas of frost. Dry conditions over most of the state with only isolated showers in the northern tropics. Mostly moderate SW winds over southern Queensland, fresh at times near the coast during the morning. Moderate SE'ly winds to elsewhere, fresh at times in the northwest and over the tropics. Afternoon seabreezes near the coast. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Continuing dry over most parts on Sunday due to a high pressure system directing a stable SW to SE flow over the state. Only isolated showers about the far northern tropics. Another cool morning about the Granite Belt with possible early frost areas. High cloud will develop from the west during Sunday ahead of an upper level trough, with areas of patchy light rain developing over most central and southern districts on Monday. An increasing onshore flow will result in isolated showers over the east coast, extending further inland in southern districts. The upper trough is likely to intensify on Tuesday as it moves across southern Queensland, extending rain areas and isolated thunderstorms east. A surface trough is also expected to develop over central and southeastern Queensland, enhancing rainfall over southeastern districts. Isolated showers and patchy rain areas in the north, with possible isolated thunderstorms in the far northern tropics. In the longer term, the weather pattern becomes quite complex with the upper and surface systems interacting, potentially producing significant rain areas and strong winds over southeastern parts of Queensland.
