Australia -- Victoria Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - May 12/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. for the period until midnight EST Saturday 16 May 2009. Warning Summary at issue time Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and 60nm east of Gabo Island. Weather Situation A cold front will cross Bass Strait and clip southern Victoria on Wednesday as it heads towards the Tasman Sea. Another front embedded in a west to southwesterly airflow will move through Bass Strait on Friday and an associated deep low pressure system will pass well south of Tasmania. A high pressure system will move towards Adelaide on Saturday as the low moves towards New Zealand. Forecast for the rest of Wednesday Isolated showers mainly on and south of the divide, scattered near the coast. Isolated snow showers developing about the Alpine peaks. Cool with moderate northwest to westerly wind tending moderate to fresh west to southwesterly during the morning. Forecast for Thursday Scattered showers near the coast. Isolated showers about the northeast ranges, falling as snow about the Alpine peaks. Cool with moderate to fresh westerly winds, locally strong about the coast. Forecast for Friday Isolated showers extending eastwards across the State, becoming scattered in the southwest. Isolated snow on the Alpine peaks clearing. Cool with strong westerly winds, reaching gale force near the coast and about the ranges. Forecast for Saturday Isolated showers, becoming scattered in south Gippsland and over the northeast ranges, falling as snow in the Alpine area. Cool to cold with fresh to strong southwesterly winds, reaching gale force near the coast.
