Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 12/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil.
STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday night and Wednesday
Cloudy with rain areas in the eastern and central parts of the state, mostly
light. Scattered showers along the east coast. Isolated afternoon showers and
thunderstorms about the southern inland. Fine in the far west. Moderate SE to NE
winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
During Thursday and Friday the next upstream upper level trough moves eastwards
while a weak surface trough pushes up from the SW. Cold air in the middle levels
of the atmosphere associated with this trough will produce instability and mat
cause isolated showers and thunderstorms over southern districts. The areas of
light rain, presently over central and eastern parts, will begin to ease during
Thursday, with showers expected along the east coast but contracting from the
south late Thursday. Isolated showers inland in the northeast. Dry conditions
throughout the rest of the state in the wake of the surface trough.
Over the weekend a 1024 hPa high in the Great Australian Bight will direct dry
SW to SE winds over the bulk of Queensland, producing fine weather and clear
skies. Onshore winds north of about Cairns will produce some isolated showers.
Expect cool nights with inland towns to have below average overnight minimum
temperatures. Daytime maximum temperatures will be about average. Onshore winds
north of about Cairns will produce some isolated showers.
