Weekly Canadian Crush Rises

WINNIPEG - May 11/09 -- STAT -- The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association (COPA) reports weekly crush in that country totalled 72,174 metric tons (MT) of canola and 28,079 of soybeans during the week ending May 6.

The numbers, as reported to the association by member firms, show canola crush jumped 10.7%, ending two weeks of declining crush. Soybean crush fell 6%, after rising the previous week.

Crush so far during the 2008-09 marketing year totals 3,140,571 MT of canola, up about 65,000 MT from the 3,075,621 MT crushed by the same time last season. Soybeans crush so far totals 1,019,063 MT, down about 89,000 MT from the 1,107,765 MT crushed during the same period last season.

Crush capacity utilization for the week was 81.3% for canola and 94.7% so far this season. Soybean crush capacity utilization was 62.7% for the week and 60.9% so far this season.
