Chickpeas Perplexed by Canadian StocksVANCOUVER - May 8/09 - SNS -- The latest stocks in all positions report from Statistics Canada was not helpful to chickpea markets, but it is unlikely to have a major impact on price. Statistics Canada estimates there are 107,000 metric tons (MT) o chickpeas in all positions in Canada, including 97,000 MT on farms and 10,000 in commercial shipping positions. This is down from 134,000 MT last year, but reveals that the usage ratio of chickpeas is only 38.2%, with exports in the August to February period totalling just 18,300 MT.
