Smaller Chickpea Crops in CanadaVANCOUVER - May 1/09 - SNS -- In its latest monthly review of Canadian chickpeas Agriculture Canada's market analysis branch in Winnipeg reports this year's seeded area will total 121,000 acres. It is forecasting production for 2009 will total 65,000 MT. Agriculture Canada is forecasting exports for 2008-09 at 40,000 MT, down 30,000 on the month; and at 55,000 in the coming season. Domestic use in 2008-09 is estimated at 68,000 MT, up 3,000 on the month; and at 58,000 MT for the coming season. Season ending stocks are forecast at 70,000 MT by the close of the 2008-09 marketing year, up 25,000 on the month. Next season's ending stocks are expected to reach 30,000 MT. Agriculture Canada forecast grower bids will range between $540 and $570 for 2008-09 for all classes of chickpeas, versus between $530 and $560 in last month's report.
