Malaysian Palm Oil Output Up

WASHINGTON - May 1/09 - SNS -- Palm oil output rose 7.4% in March to 1.3 million metric tons (MT), according to data from the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB).

Peninsular Malaysia's production increased by 4.4% while East Malaysia's output rose 12%. Compared to March 2008, output during March 2009 was 1.5% higher.

The palms are entering a seasonal uptrend in output phase and the U.S. agricultural attache for that country expects CPO output to increase to 4,400 MT during Apr–Jun period. The uptrend is likely to continue into the Jul-Sep quarter.
