Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 3/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Thomson River and tributaries and the
Diamantina River.
A gale and strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Townsville
and Burnett Heads.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Tuesday and Wednesday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics extending to the
Gulf Country tomorrow. A few showers along most of the east coast with some rain
areas possibly developing along the central coast later tomorrow. Some high
cloud over southern parts but no rain. Moderate southeast winds over central and
southern parts, strong about the central and Capricorn coasts.

week, extending a firm ridge to Queensland south coast. The tropical low off the
central coast is forecast by all the computer models to start moving northwards
tomorrow and then back over the northwest Coral Sea later in the week. The
potential for it to develop into a tropical cyclone remains but not in the short
term. The combination of the low and the ridge will maintain fresh to strong
southeast winds along the Central and Capricorn coasts extending to the north
tropical coast as the low moves that way. Some rain areas will possibly develop
along the central coast later tomorrow if all goes to plan gradually extending
up onto the north tropical coast later in the week as well as a fair way inland.
Some showers and thunderstorms will spread around the Gulf Country on Wednesday.
Some high cloud will skirt across southern parts but no rain is expected.
Isolated showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop over the west of the
