Weekly Canadian Crush Little Changed

WINNIPEG - May 1/09 -- STAT -- The Canadian Oilseed Processors Association (COPA) reports weekly crush in that country totalled 65,221 metric tons (MT) of canola and 29,866 of soybeans during the week ending April 29.

The numbers, as reported to the association by member firms, show canola crush dropped 14.3%, for a second week over week decline. Soybean crush rose 10.8%, after declining the previous week.

Crush so far during the 2008-09 marketing year totals 3,068,397 MT of canola, up about 68,000 MT from the 3,000,747 MT crushed by the same time last season. Soybeans crush so far totals 990,984 MT, down about 90,000 MT from the 1,080,794 MT crushed during the same period last season.

Crush capacity utilization for the week was 73.5% for canola and 94.9% so far this season. Soybean crush capacity utilization was 66.7% for the week and 60.7% so far this season.
