Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 28/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Strong wind warning for coastal waters between Lockhart River and Cooktown.
STATE FORECAST
for Tuesday night and Wednesday
Isolated showers over much of Cape York Peninsula and spreading southwards along
the east coast to about the Cardwell area this evening and overnight and
becoming more widespread on Wednesday. Isolated thunderstorms developing over
the northern Cape York Peninsula. Dry conditions elsewhere. Generally moderate
to fresh SW to SE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
A ridge of high pressure will persist across south-eastern Australia and along
the east coast until the end of this week. As a result, fine and cool conditions
will be maintained in most areas of the state during this period. Because of the
dry SW to SE airflow across the interior, temperatures at night will be well
below average, especially in the south, and some frosts are possible about the
Granite Belt area during the mornings. Daytime temperatures will also remain
slightly below average over most of Queensland.
The trough over the northwest Coral Sea will move closer to the coast and
possibly across Cape York Peninsula the over the next few days and as a result,
showers should continue to increase about the east coast north of about the
Whitsundays and spread across Cape York Peninsula and adjacent areas. A few
thunderstorms will continue over Cape York Peninsula until about Friday. Further
south, the flow along the east coast will trend to a more onshore S/SE direction
and become moderate to fresh in most areas by Thursday. So showers will
generally develop in most remaining east coast areas from Thursday night onwards
