Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Mar 1/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A flood warning is current for the Flinders River and tributaries and the Thomson River. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta. A strong wind warning is current for coastal waters between Cardwell and St Lawrence for Sunday night. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Rain areas and thunderstorms with some moderate to heavy falls over the far northern and eastern tropics. Fine elsewhere. Dry, fresh and gusty S/SE winds over most southern and central districts. Moderate to fresh NW/W winds over the far northern tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Ridging will continue to firm across southern and western districts during the day resulting in dry fresh S/SE winds circulating over these districts. This ridging will continue across these districts into mid week. The winds however will shift more SE/E as a high cell develops in the Tasman Sea from late Monday onwards. Consequently, winds will become more humid over eastern districts and produce showers along the southern and central coast. The monsoon low currently over the north-east tropics is expected to move off the coast during the day and strengthen the winds along the southern and central east tropical coast. There is some potential for this low to deepen. This low will then move slowly northwards contracting the rain and storm activity into the far northern tropics by mid week. Isolated to scattered moderate to heavy falls will continue over --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
