Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 1/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A gale warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory. Strong wind warnings are current for other Victorian coastal waters,
for Port Phillip and Western Port, and for the Gippsland Lakes.   
Weather Pattern
A high pressure system southwest of Western Australia will move slowly eastwards
over the next few days.  A cold front will move through Bass Strait during
Tuesday.  
Victoria
Sunday:    Showers over southern and mountain districts becoming more isolated
during the day. Isolated hail and thunderstorms in Gippsland clearing by the
morning. Snowfalls at first on the higher Alpine peaks. A cool to mild day.
Moderate to fresh southwesterly winds, strong to gale force along parts of the
coast.
Fire Danger:  Generally moderate to high.
UV Index: 9 [very high] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud.
Monday:    Fine apart from isolated showers or drizzle near the coast. Mild in
the south, warmer inland. 
Tuesday:   Isolated showers and drizzle in the south. Fine in the north. Mild to
warm.
Wednesday: Isolated coastal showers or drizzle at first then fine. Mild to warm.

Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Sunday:    Southwesterly winds of 20 to 25 knots moderating to 15 to 20 knots by
the morning.  Waves of 1 to 1.5 metres. A strong wind warning is current.
Monday:    Southwest to southerly winds of 10 to 15 knots, locally 20 knots in
the afternoon.
Tuesday:   Variable wind to 10 knots tending south to southwesterly during the
day and increasing to 15 knots.
Wednesday: Southerly winds of 10 knots and afternoon seabreezes of 15 to 20
knots.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers.
