Australia -- New South Wales Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Apr 22/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. Warning Summary at issue time: Nil. For the latest warning information please check the Bureau's web site www.bom.gov.au/weather/nsw Current Weather Situation and Future Developments: A slow moving low pressure system lies over the northern Tasman Sea, while a high to the southeast of Tasmania extends a ridge into New South Wales. This ridge is currently maintaining fine conditions for all but the coastal districts, where onshore winds are bringing some showers, mainly to the northern coastal fringe. A trough, currently over Western Australia, will reach the far west of New South Wales late Thursday, with a cold front bringing some rain to the southern half of the state as it pushes east on Friday. A second front is expected to move across the region during the weekend, bringing a significantly cooler airmass and further precipitation to the southern districts. Forecast for Thursday Isolated showers on the north and central coasts and adjacent ranges, with the showers clearing from the central coasts during the morning. Some late patchy rain entering the far southwest. Northeast to southeast winds near the coast, and north to northeast winds inland. Forecast for Friday Fine in the northeast. Patchy rain extending from the west, chiefly in the southern border districts, and reaching the southern coast late in the day or overnight. The chance of thunderstorms about the southern inland. Northeast to northwest winds, with a gusty west to southwest change extending from the west. Forecast for Saturday Early showers clearing from the southern and central coasts. Showers and rain areas about the southern inland, increasing from the west during the day. Fine in the northern half of the state. West to northwest winds. Forecast for Sunday Showers and rain periods in the southern half of the state, chiefly near the Victorian border, and clearing from the west later in the day. The chance of thunderstorms over the southern inland. Fine in the north. Gusty west to northwest winds, turning southwesterly. --- STAT News Service
