Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 28/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
Strong wind warnings are current for all Victorian coastal waters, for Port
Phillip and Western Port, and for the Gippsland Lakes.   
Weather Pattern
A cold front is crossing the Tasman Sea. A high pressure system southwest of
Western Australia will move slowly eastwards over the next few days. A second
cold front will move through Bass Strait during Tuesday.  
Victoria
Saturday:  Showers on and south of the Divide with local hail and thunder.
Snowfalls on the higher alpine peaks. Isolated showers on the northern plains.
Cool to cold with moderate to fresh southwesterly wind becoming general.
Fire Danger: Moderate to high.
UV Index: 9 [very high] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud.
Sunday:    Showers in the south becoming more isolated. Fine in the north. Cool
to mild. 
Monday:    Fine apart from isolated showers or drizzle near the coast. Mild in
the south, warmer inland. 
Tuesday:   Isolated showers and drizzle in the south. Fine in the north. Mild to
warm.
Forecast for Melbourne
Saturday
Cloudy periods with occasional showers. Local hail and thunder. Fresh and gusty
westerly wind shifting southwest to southerly.

Monday
Becoming fine.                              Min 10    Max 20
Tuesday
Mainly fine.                                Min 12    Max 21
Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Warmer. Mostly fine.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Saturday:  Westerly wind of 20 to 25 knots shifting southwesterly at similar
strength by the afternoon. Stronger squalls possible in showers and local
thunderstorms. Waves of 1 to 2 metres. A strong wind warning is current.
Sunday:    Southwesterly wind of 15 to 20 knots locally reaching 25 knots at
first. Waves 1 to 1.5 metres.
Monday:    Southwest to southerly wind of 10 to 15 knots, locally 20 knots in
the afternoon.
Tuesday:   Southwest to westerly wind of 10 to 15 knots tending southerly at 15
to 20 knots later.
Headline Melbourne: Occasional showers. 
Headline Victoria:  Showers, mainly in the south. Local hail and thunder. Cool
