Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Apr 4/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A Severe Weather Warning is current for the Southeast Coast and southern Wide Bay and Burnett districts. A flood warning is current for the Mary River and Six Mile Creek. A flood warning is current for the Noosa River and Sunshine Coast streams. STATE FORECAST for Sunday Showers and isolated thunderstorms over the south and central parts of the state, spreading out to rain areas late in the day, with moderate to locally heavy falls possible in the eastern Darling Downs, Southeast Coast district, and southern Wide Bay and Burnett district. Scattered showers about the central and tropical coasts, and isolated afternoon showers over the tropical interior. Light to moderate SE to NE winds, tending moderate to fresh SE'ly in the far west. EXTENDED OUTLOOK A mid-level trough, combined with a surface trough, is producing widespread showers and areas of rain in the southeast. These troughs should weaken by late Monday, causing rainfalls to gradually ease. A firm ridge should push up the east coast early in the week. In the southeast: A southerly change is expected to move up the southeast coast from Monday, which will ease rainfalls in the Southeast Coast district, though showers will still remain. Rest of state: An inland surface trough is expected to move slowly west during the week, generating further showers and thunderstorms over central and southeast interior parts of the state early in the week, before easing to isolated showers by the middle of the week. Scattered showers are expected along the tropical coasts and hinterland regions, tending isolated over inland areas. Strong southeast winds should spread northwards along the east coastal waters --- STAT News Service
