Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 2/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
A FLOOD WARNING IS CURRENT FOR THE MARY RIVER AND SIX MILE CREEK
A FLOOD WARNING IS CURRENT FOR THE NOOSA RIVER AND SUNSHINE COAST STREAMS
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Showers with rain areas about the far southern coast. A few showers and possible
afternoon thunder over remaining south-east areas. Fine elsewhere over the state
apart from isolated afternoon showers about western Cape York Peninsula.
Moderate to fresh SE to NE winds about the south-east of the state. Generally
light winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The surface trough will decay about the central coast during Saturday as ridging
from the high near New Zealand becomes firm along most of the east coast of Qld.
As a result winds along the east coast will shift to the SE. An upper trough
will move across south-eastern Australia on Saturday and into the south-west of
the state on Sunday. This system will generate a cloud band with showers and
storms and rain areas over the southern interior during Saturday. This cloud
band will then become more extensive over the interior on Sunday as the upper
trough amplifies. Some moderate to heavy falls will develop in the cloud band
early mainly over the south-east. This cloud band will move a little further
eastwards on Monday and weaken a little as the upper system weakens. A front
will move across the west of the state during Saturday and Sunday and will
enhance the precipitation over the south-east. Showers will spread across most
