Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 27/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

UPDATED
Warnings
A Severe Thunderstorm Advice is current for the Northeast, Alpine and Gippsland
Districts until 9.30pm.
A strong wind warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Point
Hicks. 
Weather Pattern
A low pressure trough over Victoria is moving eastwards. A cold front will move
across Victoria later today and Friday, establishing a cooler southwesterly flow
for the weekend. A high pressure system will move into the Bight at the start of
next week.    
Victoria
Tonight and Friday: Rain and local thunderstorms over eastern districts
contracting east and clearing Friday morning. Scattered showers to follow,
occurring mostly over southern and mountain districts. A cool to mild day with a
moderate to fresh west to southwesterly wind. Areas of raised dust possible over
the northwest during the afternoon.        Fire Danger: Generally high to very
high.
UV Index: 9 [very high] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud.
Saturday:  Scattered showers, mostly near and south of the ranges. Cool to mild.
Windy.
Sunday:    Showers in the south becoming isolated. Cool to mild. Windy.
Monday:    Fine apart from isolated coastal showers. Mild in the south, warmer
inland.

Tonight and Friday
Fine this evening. A few brief showers tomorrow, mainly during the morning. A
partly cloudy day with a moderate to fresh southwesterly wind, gradually tending
westerly.

Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Tonight and Friday: Southerly wind 15 to 20 knots this evening easing to 10 to
15 knots overnight. Southwesterly wind 10 to 15 knots tomorrow morning tending
westerly during the day and locally reaching 20 knots.  Waves up to 1 metre.
Saturday:  Westerly wind 20 to 25 knots shifting southwest at 20 to 30 knots.
Sunday:    Southwest to southerly wind of 15 to 20 knots locally 25 knots in the
afternoon.
Monday:    Southwest to southerly wind 5 to 15 knots and afternoon seabreezes to
20 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Few showers.
Headline Victoria:  Thunderstorms in east clearing. Showers mainly in the south.
