Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 1/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EST Sunday 5 April 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm
east of Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A strong high pressure system near New Zealand is moving slowly east. A low
pressure trough will enter western Victoria this afternoon and move through
central and eastern parts of the state on Friday. A cold front south of Western
Australia will catch up to the trough by late Friday. On Saturday a ridge of
high pressure will develop over the State. Another cold front will move across
Bass Strait on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers developing in the east. Drizzle patches possible about the
southwest coast in the evening. A mild to warm and partly cloudy day with light
to moderate northeast to northwest winds, shifting southwesterly in the
afternoon over the southwest. Afternoon seabreezes in Gippsland.
Maximum Fire Danger: High to locally very high in the northwest
Forecast for Friday
Scattered showers developing, mainly in the south and east. Rain areas and
isolated thunderstorms in central and eastern parts, contracting eastwards.
Warm in the east at first, cooler in the west as moderate to fresh west to
southwesterly winds extend throughout and strengthen near the coast.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated thunderstorms in the northeast, clearing. Isolated showers on and
south of the ranges, gradually contracting to the coast. Light to moderate
south to southwesterly winds.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated showers in southern and mountain districts. West to southwesterly
winds, moderate to fresh in the south.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Thursday.
