Turkey Hatchery DeclinesWASHINGTON - Mar 16/09 - SNS -- Turkey hatchery activity declined in the United States during February, according to the USDA. Turkey eggs in incubators on March 1, 2009, in the United States totaled 28.2 million, down 12% from March 1, 2008. Eggs in incubators were down 1% from the February 1, 2009 total of 28.5 million eggs. Regional changes from the previous year were: East North Central down 8% at 4,232,000; West North Central down 5% at 11,531,000; North and South Atlantic down 10% at 9,465,000; and South Central and West down 38% at 3,004,000 eggs in incubators. Turkey poults hatched during February 2009, in the United States totaled 22.9 million, down 11% from February 2008. Poults hatched were down 8% from January 2009 total of 24.9 million poults.
