Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 10/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
1. A severe weather warning is current for coastal and island communities
between Sandy Cape and Coolangatta.
2. A wind warning is current for coastal waters between Yeppoon and Point
Danger.
3. Flood warnings are current for the Lower Diamantina River and Eyre Creek.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Wednesday and Thursday
Squally showers tending to rain at times about coastal districts south of
Gladstone. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics and
western districts, increasing over the Channel Country and Warrego on Thursday.
Fine elsewhere. Strong to gale force SE to E winds and dangerous surf about the
exposed coast and islands between Yeppoon and Coolangatta. Mostly light to
moderate SE to NE winds elsewhere.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
Tropical Cyclone Hamish has sheared leaving an exposed low level centre, which
has started to drift back towards the NW under the influence of the high near
Tasmania.
So by Friday the remnants of Hamish will be located just east of Rockhampton.
Moderate to locally heavy falls may occur on the southern side of the low near
the coast and in adjacent inland areas. An upper trough will move across the
south-east of the state on Friday and may temporarily enhance the shower
activity near the southern border on Friday afternoon. This upper trough will
pass seawards overnight Friday. As a result only a few showers will occur about
the south-east of the state on Saturday and Sunday and then mainly near the
coast.
Over the north of the state the shower and storm activity will move northwards
during Thursday and then become confined to the Peninsula and Gulf areas from
Friday onwards as drier low level air pushes northwards. A few showers and
storms will occur over the west of the state on Thursday due to the passage of
the upper trough. In the wake of the upper trough fine weather will be the order
