Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 23/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning for coastal waters from Double Island Point to Coolangatta. STATE FORECAST for Monday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over much of the state, more isolated in southern parts. Rain areas developing along the central and SE coasts and ranges, with some moderate to heavy falls possible. Freshening southeast winds along the south coast and freshening northwest to northeast winds over the northern and eastern tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The broad area of low pressure is expected to be maintained across the southern tropics for the next few days with fresh monsoonal flow across the northern tropics. This will result in continued instability with scattered showers and thunderstorms across most of the tropics with local rain areas. A low pressure system over the inland tropics will persist in the region for a few days as in response to a slow moving upper trough. Strong convergence in the very humid airmass near this low result in rain areas with some possible heavy falls near the coast and ranges in particular. The slow moving high in the tasman will extend a ridging along the south coast and in conjunction with the development of a trough in the southern Coral Sea will strengthen southeasterly winds along the coast, also bringing in scattered shower activity. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
