Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 23/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory.
Weather Pattern
A weak low pressure will persist from the interior of the continent southwards
into northern Victoria until midweek. A high pressure ridge to the south of
Victoria will temporarily weaken on Monday allowing a weak cold front to pass
south of the State Monday night. A stronger cold front will move from south of
the Bight to reach western Victoria late on Thursday.  
Victoria
Monday:    Sultry. Local morning fog in the south. Isolated afternoon showers
mainly about the ranges. Light to moderate northeast to northerly winds inland
becoming variable. Afternoon coastal seabreezes.
Fire Danger: Generally moderate to high.
UV Index: 10 [very high] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud.
Tuesday:   Afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the east. Morning fogs and
drizzle in the south. Warm.
Wednesday: Fine apart from morning fogs in the south and isolated showers in the
east. Sultry.
Thursday:  Hot ahead of cooler change with thundery rain over western and
central districts late in the day.
Forecast for Melbourne
Monday
Fine but humid. A mainly sunny day with a moderate northerly wind in the morning
and a fresh afternoon seabreeze.

Early fog or drizzle then fine.             Min 18    Max 25
Wednesday
Fine.                                       Min 18    Max 30
Thursday
Late change with thundery rain.             Min 17    Max 31
Trend for Friday, Saturday and Sunday
Cool with showery periods.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Monday:    Northerly winds at 10 knots, increasing to 15 to 20 knots later
morning. Seabreezes of 15 to 20 knots developing in the afternoon. Waves up to 1
metre.   
Tuesday:   Southerly wind 10 to 15 knots, locally reaching 20 knots during the
afternoon and evening.
Wednesday: Variable wind to 10 knots and afternoon seabreezes to 15 knots. 
Thursday:  Northerly wind increasing to 15 to 20 knots ahead of a late southerly
change to 25 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Fine. Humid.
