Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 23/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 UPDATED WARNING SUMMARY A strong wind warning for coastal waters from Double Island Point to Coolangatta. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Cloudy with scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the state although only isolated over the southern interior. Widespread rain developing along the central coast and ranges during Monday. Some moderate to heavy falls, particularly the central coast. Light to moderate winds most parts. Freshening southeast winds along the south coast tomorrow with freshening northwest to northeast winds over the northern and eastern tropics. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The upper trough will move up into the tropics tomorrow and develop a tropical low over the eastern central tropics. The monsoonal flow is then expected to strengthen over the northern tropics. A firm ridge will develop along the south coast during tomorrow as the NSW surface trough moves northward and another trough develops over the southern Coral Sea resulting in increasing southeast winds along the south coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over most of the state overnight, continue over the northern tropics for the next few days but become more isolated over the central and southern interior tomorrow and Tuesday. Widespread rain is expected to develop around the southeastern flank of the tropical low with heavy falls. If the low moves too far east, the heavy falls will not eventuate.
