Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 22/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Nil warnings.
STATE FORECAST
for Sunday
Cloudy with scattered showers and storms across much of the state although
becoming fine across the southern interior. Some heavy falls through parts of
the central interior and developing through central coastal districts through
the day. Light to moderate winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The rain band over southern districts continues to move north through the
central interior and into the tropics as an upper trough develops and moves up
into Queensland. While storm activity should become more isolated over the
northern western interior on Monday rainfall activity is expected to be
concentrated about the eastern coastal parts and eastern tropics through until
Tuesday where a tropical low is expected to form. By Tuesday monsoonal westerly
winds will have extended across Cape York Peninsula with scattered areas of rain
and storms. Meanwhile further south the southeast of the state should see
scattered shower and storm activity today as a low on the NSW central coast
moves inland and weakens while conditions should gradually become fine across
the remaining southern interior. By Tuesday a broad area of shower activity is
expected across much of the south of the state under the influence of a deep
moist easterly airstream with activity being more frequent closer to the east
coast.
