Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 22/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil warnings. STATE FORECAST for Saturday night and Sunday Rain and isolated thunderstorms over southern districts gradually contracting to the southern tropics tomorrow. Scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics and Sunday afternoon over the southeast of the state. Some moderate to locally heavy falls likely. Drizzle and fog over the southern interior Sunday morning. Light to moderate winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The rain band over southern districts is expected to move up into the tropics tomorrow as the upper trough develops and moves up into Queensland but the rain is likely to mostly break up Monday even though the upper trough remains over the central tropics. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over remaining tropical regions whilst a few showers or thunderstorms are likely to persist over the southeast before spreading back across the central and southern interior on Tuesday and Wednesday. Overnight and morning low cloud and drizzle are likely in the moist air following the rain. The surface low on the central NSW coast is expected to move north and weaken whilst another low forms over the central tropics on Monday. At this stage, the low is expected to remain overland and not deepen significantly. This latter low will have the effect of increasing the westerly monsoonal flow over northern Cape York Peninsula over the next few days as well as generating scattered to widespread showers and thunderstorms over the northern and eastern tropics with some heavy falls. Easterly winds are expected to develop back over the southeast on Monday along with increasing showers. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
