Canadian Pea Export Pace Slowing

VANCOUVER - Feb 27/09 - SNS -- Canadian field pea export shipping activity showed some signs of slowing during the past week, with most shippers signalling they are mostly covered against commitments through the end of March.

Actual and prospective bulk conventional movement through licensed terminals in Vancouver and Thunder Bay now totals 1,184,473 metric tons (MT) through the end of March, down just 24,286 MT from the same period last season.

It must be noted that by the end of December, total exports lagged last season by almost 300,000 MT. In the January-March quarter of 2008, Canada exporters roughly 527,000 MT, including 333,000 MT of bulk conventional movement.
