Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 21/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory.
Weather Pattern
A low pressure trough extends from the interior of the continent southwards into
Victoria. This trough is expected to move eastwards and weaken during the
weekend, although a weak trough should persist over northern Victoria.  A high
pressure ridge will develop south of the State during the weekend then a
weakening cold front will approach from the southwest on Monday and move through
Bass Strait by early Tuesday. 
Victoria
Saturday:  Rain areas in the far east easing during the morning but showers and
drizzle to follow, mainly in the south and about the ranges and becoming
isolated in the west. Morning fogs. A mild to warm and humid day with a light to
moderate southeast to southwesterly wind.
Fire Danger: Generally high in grassland.
UV Index: 12 [extreme] decreasing to 4 [moderate] under cloud.
Sunday:    Isolated showers and drizzle in the south and east. Local morning
fog. Mild to warm and humid.
Monday:    Local early fog. Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Warm
to hot.
Tuesday:   Afternoon showers and thunderstorms in the east. Morning fogs in the
south. Generally warm.
Forecast for Melbourne
Saturday
Drizzle in the morning, a shower or two remaining by the afternoon. A mostly
cloudy day with a light wind tending moderate southeasterly.

Shower or two developing.                   Min 17    Max 32
Tuesday
Morning drizzle then fine.                  Min 18    Max 25
Trend for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
Mainly fine and mild to warm ahead of a cool showery change late in the period.
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Saturday:  Variable winds below 10 knots tending southeasterly at 10 to 15 knots
during the morning and increasing to 15 to 20 knots during the afternoon. Waves
around half a metre, locally reaching 1 metre in the afternoon.
Sunday:    Southeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots. Afternoon seabreezes to 20
knots.
Monday:    Northeast to northerly winds of 10 to 15 knots shifting southerly at
10 to 20 knots later.  
Tuesday:   Southerly wind 10 to 15 knots, locally reaching 20 knots during the
afternoon and evening.
Headline Melbourne: Morning drizzle.
