Chickpeas Little Changed

VANCOUVER - Feb 20/09 - SNS -- International chickpea markets were little changed in moderate trading activity during the past week.

Exporters in India continue to pursue available selling opportunities, while their counterparts in Mexico work to maximize returns on this year's harvest in order to sustain grower interest in the crop next season.

Deteriorating confidence in the world economic situation may be contributing to the eagerness of some exporters to maximize short term sales. This reflects an underlying worry that if the spending power of consumers continues to decline, this will have an impact on the amount of money they are willing to pay for food.
