Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 20/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Paroo River downstream of Eulo and the Lower Warrego River. STATE FORECAST for Friday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over the northern tropics. Cloudy over southern districts with patchy rain and local storms. A few showers along the east coast. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will move slowly eastwards and will continue to drive very moist NE winds across most of the state through the weekend. In general, sultry conditions are likely over most northern and eastern areas of the state into next week. An upper trough system will move into south-east Australia over the next few days and develop a surface low over southern NSW. This low and upper trough will invigorate the cloud band already over southern Qld and consequently, from Friday onwards the cloud over southern Qld will thicken and produce an increase in rain and local thunder over the south-east corner. Some moderate to heavy falls are likely over this area on Saturday. Further, rain with some heavy falls will develop over north-east NSW. During Saturday this rain and local thunder area will merge over central Qld with a band of showers and storms extending from the north-west of the state. This whole band will then move into eastern districts on Sunday with the rain areas over the south-east breaking to showers during the morning. Showers and storms will then hover over most eastern and northern areas of the state into midweek. During this period the monsoon trough will drift southwards into the central tropics and will enhance the shower and storm activity in the north. Over the south-west of the state dry conditions will develop during Saturday. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
