Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 20/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
A strong wind warning is current for Victorian coastal waters east of Wilsons
Promontory.
A Brown Rot warning is current for northern Victoria. 
Weather Pattern
A high pressure system will persist over the Tasman Sea for the next few days. A
broad area of low pressure over western and central parts of Australia will
gradually extend southeastwards with a low pressure system developing near the
New South Wales coast by Sunday. A low pressure trough will then develop over
Victoria during Sunday and Monday. 
Victoria
Friday:    Rain areas, contracting to the east during today.  Local heavy falls
possible in the north. Scattered showers and drizzle developing in the west and
isolated thunderstorms possible in the north. A generally mild and humid day
with light to moderate northeasterly winds,  tending south to southwesterly in
the west during the day.  
UV Index: 10 [very high] decreasing to 2 [low] under thick cloud.
Saturday:  Patchy rain and isolated thunderstorms in the east, clearing.
Scattered showers and drizzle elsewhere in the south. Mild to warm and humid.
Sunday:    Isolated showers and drizzle in the south, more widespread in the
east. Isolated thunderstorms in the east. Mild to warm and humid.
Monday:    Local early fog. Isolated showers and thunderstorms over central and
eastern areas. Warm to hot.
Forecast for Melbourne
Friday
Periods of rain, tending to a few showers later today. Winds mainly light to
moderate northeasterly.

Shower or two.                              Min 18    Max 27
Monday
Shower or two.                              Min 17    Max 32
Trend for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Mainly fine and mild.

Friday:    Northeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots tending east to southeasterly
later. Waves around half a metre. 
Saturday:  East to southeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots. Afternoon seabreezes
to 20 knots.
Sunday:    Southeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots. Afternoon seabreezes to 20
knots.
Monday:    Northeast to northerly winds of 10 to 15 knots shifting southerly at
10 to 15 knots later.  
Headline Melbourne: Rain periods, easing.
