Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 10/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Saturday 14 February 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Fire weather warning for Northern Country, Wimmera, Mallee and North Central
forecast districts.
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Point Hicks and 60nm east of
Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A southerly airflow will persist over Victoria for several days as a large high
pressure system well south of Western Australia drifts slowly eastwards and a
series of weak cold fronts cross Tasmania. The high will be located east of
Tasmania by Friday night. Another high pressure system is expected to move into
the Bight on Saturday.
Forecast for the rest of Tuesday
Isolated showers on and south of the ranges more widespread in East Gippsland.
Dry in the north. Areas of smoke. Cool to mild with fresh and gusty southwest
to southerly winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
Isolated showers in the south, more widespread over East Gippsland. Areas of
smoke. Dry in the north. Cool to mild with moderate to fresh southerly winds.
Maximum Fire Danger: High to very high grading to extreme in northern grasslands
Forecast for Thursday
Isolated showers in the south, mainly about the coast and more widespread over
East Gippsland. Dry in the north. Areas of smoke. Cool to mild with moderate to
fresh south to southeast winds.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers in Gippsland. Fine elsewhere. Areas of smoke. Mild to warm
with moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers in Gippsland. Fine elsewhere. Areas of smoke. Mild to warm
with moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Wednesday.
