Russian Grain Markets More Lively

KIEV - Feb 19/03 - APK -- The past week in the Russian grain markets were more lively, especially in terms of feed wheat and barley trade.

This is to say, deceleration of price growth and some supply/demand stabilization, noticed in late January - early February, in the week in review begun to "stir up" again, the review of Unidell group marketing analyses service says.

The review says the main factor of grain price increase remains to be exporters' demand, with schedule purchases of millers starting to contribute too. Though, the latter have been relatively inactive. Another factor of consolidation of demand is continuing campaign of execution by traders of their contracts for grain supplies to the intervention fund. This mostly concerns Siberian region and bread wheat. Grain purchases as a settlement of intervention tender results may be continued into March.

Thus, the leaders of price growth have been feed wheat and barley. Next come wheat Classes 4 and 3 and rye. Feed maize and sunflower seed prices have not practically changed.

Average prices EXW European Russia were as follows (change on a week in parentheses): wheat Class 3 - 2,380 roubles per metric ton (MT) (+25 roubles), wheat Class 4 - 1,915 roubles per MT (+40 roubles), feed wheat - 1,520 roubles per MT (+60 roubles), feed barley - 1,700 roubles per MT (+50 roubles), milling rye - 860 roubles per MT (+5 roubles), feed maize - 2,800 roubles per MT (0). One US dollar is equal to 32 roubles.

Prices in West Siberia grew at more moderate pace than in European Part. The quotation changed only for wheat Classes 3 and 4, i.e. commodities, bought into the intervention fund. Average prices (FCA) in Siberia were as follows: wheat Class 3 - 2,025 roubles per MT (+25 roubles), wheat Class 4 - 1,435 roubles per MT (+5 roubles), feed wheat - 1,175 roubles per MT (0), feed barley - 1,250 roubles per MT (0), milling rye - 800 roubles per MT (0).

Average prices for sunflower seeds stayed unchanged on a week - 6,535 roubles per MT.

Markets of wheat and rye floor were featured by a moderate price growth, though less pronounced and with a feeble further perspective. Top and 2nd grade wheat flour has become dearer by 15 roubles per MT on average, while the price for the 1st grade flour somewhat decreased - by 20 roubles. At the same time, prices for rye flour that had decreased the week before, were somewhat restored. Russia's average EXW prices for flours were as follows (change on a week in parentheses): top grade flour - 4,285 roubles per tone (+15 roubles), 1st grade flour - 3,765 roubles per MT (-20 roubles), 2nd grade flour - 2,945 roubles per MT (+15 roubles), rye flour - 1,760 roubles per MT (+10 roubles).
