Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 8/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY 1. Flood warnings are current for the Burdekin River, the Haughton River, the Herbert River and the Tully and Murray Rivers. Flood warnings are current for the Diamantina River, Georgina River and Eyre Creek. Flood warnings are current for the Gulf Rivers including the Nicholson, Flinders and Norman Rivers. Flood warning current for the Don River. 2. A severe weather warning for heavy rain is current for the Herbert and Lower Burdekin, northern parts of the Central Coast and far north-east parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields. 3. A severe weather warning for abnormally high tides is current for the Gulf of Carpentaria coast, Torres Strait Islands and the east coast between Cairns and Bowen. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Monsoonal showers and thunderstorms over the tropics with rain areas developing across the interior towards the NW district overnight. Heavier rain on the coast between Townsville and Mackay. Isolated showers on the coast south of Mackay. Fine over the remainder. For Monday, the monsoonal trough extends further south with the rain band extending from near Urandangie to the coast from Mackay to Rockhampton. Heavier rain north of St Lawrence. A surface trough will enter the SE with very isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms. Moderate to fresh SE winds along the central coast shifting moderate NE inland. Moderate N/NW winds over the far north of the state. EXTENDED OUTLOOK By Tuesday the monsoonal trough has reached it's maximum southern position with the rain band extending from Boulia across to Longreach and on the central coast. Patchy rain will develop over southern districts during Tuesday and will reach the SE coast overnight. Isolated showers and thunderstorms further west. By Wednesday, the patchy rain clears the SE, general rain continues across the interior with heavier falls over the northern Central Highlands and over the Capricornia. A vigorous SE'ly change will pass through the SE coastal district with isolated showers and isolated thunderstorms in the southern Darling Downs. By Thursday the SE'ly change will push the monsoonal trough back north. The --- STAT News Service
