India Lifts Rabi Season Minimum Support PricesNEW DELHI - Jan 29/09 - SNS -- Minimum support prices (MSP) available to farmers for their rabi or winter season pulse crops were finally set by India's Agriculture Ministry, with support levels for chickpeas and lentils rising, while levels were left unchanged for safflower. In announcing the new levels, India's Agriculture Department said, "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved, on the recommendations of CACP, the MSP for Rabi Crops of 2008-09 season. The MSP of Wheat has been fixed at Rs.1080 per quintal (100 kilograms), marking an increase of Rs.80 per quintal over the last years MSP. The MSP of Barley has been raised by Rs.35 per quintal and has been fixed at Rs.680 per quintal. "The MSP of Gram has been fixed at Rs.1730 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs.130 per quintal over the last years MSP. The MSP of Masur (Lentil) has been fixed at Rs.1870 per quintal, marking an increase of Rs.170 per quintal over the last years MSP. "The MSP of Safflower remains unchanged at Rs.1650 per quintal but the MSP of Rapeseed/Mustard has been raised by Rs.30 per quintal and fixed at Rs.1830 per quintal."
