Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 15/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Paroo and Lower Warrego Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Sunday night and Monday Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northern tropics. Cloudy over the far west and southern interior with patchy rain or showers and isolated thunderstorms. Fine in most eastern districts apart from a few coastal showers, mainly in the tropics. Moderate SE to NE winds along the east coast turning NE to N inland. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will shift slowly east of New Zealand by Monday. As a result SE to NE winds along the Queensland coast will gradually ease from the south while the moist onshore flow will bring a few showers to the tropical coast. The monsoon is currently active over northern Australia, and scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over Cape York Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria for the foreseeable future. Most of the cloud over southwest Queensland will break up during Monday. A trough will remain anchored near the Queensland southwest border for the next few days, producing isolated showers and thunderstorms in western and southern inland border districts. Showers and storms are likely to extend to southeast border areas on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of a weak trough moving north from New South Wales. The rest of Queensland can expect fine weather under the stabilising influence of a strengthening upper level ridge. Except in cloudy areas, daytime temperatures will remain above average in western districts for the next few days at least. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
