Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 14/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Lower Warrego, Paroo and Barcoo Rivers. STATE FORECAST for the rest of Saturday and Sunday Fine in most eastern districts apart from a few showers on the tropical coast. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northern tropics and the northwest the state more isolated over the central and southern interior. Cloudy in the far west with a little patchy rain. Moderate SE winds along the east coast, becoming hot N to NE over the interior. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Tasman Sea will shift slowly east of New Zealand by Monday. As a result southeast winds along the Queensland coast will gradually ease from the south starting on Sunday, while a few showers will persist about the tropical coast. The monsoon is currently active over northern Australia, and scattered showers and thunderstorms should continue over Cape York Peninsula and about the Gulf of Carpentaria for the foreseeable future. A trough anchored near the Queensland southwest border will generate isolated showers and thunderstorms in western and southern inland border districts. Storms are likely to extend across the southern Darling Downs on Monday and to the southeast coast on Tuesday ahead of a weak trough moving north from New South Wales. The rest of Queensland can expect fine weather under the stabilising influence of a strengthening upper level ridge.
