Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 14/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Lower Warrego, Paroo and Barcoo Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Saturday and Sunday
Fine in most eastern districts apart from a few showers on the tropical coast.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northern tropics and the northwest
the state more isolated over the central and southern interior. Cloudy in the
far west with a little patchy rain. Moderate SE winds along the east coast,
becoming hot N to NE over the interior.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high over the Tasman Sea will shift slowly east of New Zealand by Monday. As
a result southeast winds along the Queensland coast will gradually ease from the
south starting on Sunday, while a few showers will persist about the tropical
coast.
The monsoon is currently active over northern Australia, and scattered showers
and thunderstorms should continue over Cape York Peninsula and about the Gulf of
Carpentaria for the foreseeable future.
A trough anchored near the Queensland southwest border will generate isolated
showers and thunderstorms in western and southern inland border districts.
Storms are likely to extend across the southern Darling Downs on Monday and to
the southeast coast on Tuesday ahead of a weak trough moving north from New
South Wales.
The rest of Queensland can expect fine weather under the stabilising influence
of a strengthening upper level ridge.
Daytime temperatures will remain above average in western districts for the next
few days at least, except in cloudy areas.
