Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 23/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Tuesday 27 January 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Wilsons
Promontory.
Gale warning for Victorian waters between Wilsons Promontory and 60nm east of
Gabo Island.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A cold front will move through Bass Strait this morning while a ridge of high
pressure will develop across southern Victoria later in the day. This ridge
will cradle a broad trough of low pressure over northeastern Victoria on Sunday
and Monday. The ridge will weaken later on Monday as a high pressure system
strengthens in the southern Tasman Sea on Tuesday.
Forecast for the rest of Saturday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the south, contracting south and
clearing by the afternoon. Warm to hot in the north, milder in the south.
Moderate to fresh westerly winds gradually tending southerly.
Maximum Fire Danger: Very High in the north.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine. Warm to hot inland with moderate southwesterly winds, milder with
seabreezes near the coast.
Forecast for Monday
Fine. Warm to hot inland, milder near the coast. Light to moderate southerly
winds.
Forecast for Tuesday
Fine apart from possible morning drizzle about the Gippsland coast and the
chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms about the northeast. Hot to very
hot with light winds and milder coastal seabreezes.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Saturday.
