Solid Gain in Meat InventoryWASHINGTON - Jan 2 09 - SNS -- Total red meat supplies in freezers rose 44 million pounds in December to 1,061 million pounds, up 10% from the previous year, notes the USDA in its latest report on agricultural products in cold storage. Frozen pork supplies rose 37 million pounds during the month to 549 million pounds, up almost 99 million pounds from the previous year. Stocks of pork bellies were up 54% from last month at 51.7 million pounds and down 6% from last year. Supplies of beef were down 1 million pounds from year earlier levels at 482 million pounds, up around 7 million pounds from the previous month.
