Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 15/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Gale warning for coastal waters south of Montague Island. Strong wind warning
for waters between Wooli and Montague Island. Fire Weather Warning for the
Central West Slopes and Plains, South West Slopes, Riverina and Lower Western.
Refer to www.bom.gov.au for latest warning and Rural Fire Service Total Fire Ban
information.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
A high pressure system over the southern Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the
Queensland and a trough is over central parts of the state. The trough and
unsettled conditions are forecast to contract to the northeast on Friday, as a
high south of Adelaide pushes another ridge into the state. The resultant
southerly airstream should see temperatures return closer to average on Friday,
and a little below average on Saturday. Any shower activity should be limited to
areas east of the Divide during the weekend.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers and thunderstorms in the northeast. Isolated showers along the
southern and central coasts, late in the day. Fine elsewhere. Milder southwest
to southeast winds extending into southern and central parts, but remaining hot
in the north.
Fire danger: Very High to Extreme in the Central West Slopes and Plains, South
West Slopes, Riverina, and Lower Western.
Forecast for Saturday
Isolated showers or drizzle patches about the coast and adjacent ranges,
clearing from the south. Fine inland. South to southeast winds. Milder in the
south.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine apart from isolated showers about the northern coast and adjacent ranges,
clearing. Southeast to northeast winds. Warm to hot.
Forecast for Monday
Fine apart from isolated afternoon thunderstorms about the far northern inland.
Northwest to northeast winds. Warm to hot.
