Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 13/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warnings
Nil.
Weather Pattern
A ridge of high pressure will persist south of Victoria during today. A low
pressure trough extended from South Australia into eastern Victoria will develop
during Saturday before deepening and moving further eastwards during Sunday. A
cold front will move through Tasmania Sunday night then a high pressure system
will develop well south of the Bight on Monday and move slowly eastwards.  
Victoria
Friday:    Fine. Areas over smoke haze in the east. A warm to hot and mostly
sunny day inland with light to moderate southeast to southerly wind but milder
near the coast with fresh afternoon sea breezes.
Fire danger: Moderate to high in the south, grading high to very high in the
north.
UV Index: 10 [very high] decreasing 6 [high] under cloud
Saturday:  Early fogs in Gippsland. Patchy rain in the north and west later.
Generally warm.
Sunday:    Areas of rain and thunderstorms contracting eastward. Showers to
follow, mainly in the south. Becoming cooler with a freshening wind.
Monday:    Early rain in the far east. Showers in the south becoming isolated.
Cool to mild.
Forecast for Melbourne
Friday
Fine and sunny with a light to moderate southeast to southerly wind freshening
during the afternoon with a seabreeze.

Saturday
Fine but cloud increasing late in the day. Light wind and an afternoon
seabreeze.    Min 16    Max 29
Sunday
Rain at times.                              Min 19    Max 23
Monday
A few showers.                              Min 15    Max 21
Trend for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
Becoming warmer and mostly fine. 
Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Friday:    Southeasterly winds around 10 knots and afternoon and evening
seabreezes to 20 knots. Waves to half a metre rising to 1 metre during the
afternoon.
Saturday:  Chiefly east to southeasterly wind around 10 knots, variable over
northern waters at first, and afternoon and evening seabreezes to 15 knots.
Waves around half a metre rising to 1 metre during the afternoon.
Sunday:    Southeasterly wind around 15 knots shifting southerly at 20 to 25
knots during the afternoon. 
Monday:    Southerly wind 20 to 25 knots later easing to 15 to 20 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Fine.
