Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 13/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

IDQ1070001
WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Lower Warrego, Paroo, Alice and Barcoo
Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for Friday
Sultry most areas. Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics
becoming more isolated about southern and central districts. Light to moderate
SE to NE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move into the Tasman Sea during
the day and move slowly eastwards over the weekend. The high will reinforce the
weak ridge already persisting along the east coast. Consequently, SE winds will
freshen a little along the east coast and will direct isolated showers into more
favoured areas during Saturday. Winds will begin to ease during Sunday from the
south as the high moves away. This will result in any showers contracting
northwards into the tropical east coast by Sunday night. Over the interior a
weak trough will hover about the far south-west but will move out of the state
on Sunday. Conditions over much of the inland will continue sultry with showers
and storms becoming scattered over the tropics. This activity will slowly
contract westwards over the weekend and become confined to the north-west, west
and southern border areas. This activity will persist in these areas on Monday
also. A fresh SE wind change will develop about the southern coast late Tuesday.
