Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 13/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Pattern
A ridge of high pressure will persist south of Victoria during Friday. A low
pressure trough will develop over eastern Victoria on Saturday before deepening
and moving east of the State during Sunday. A high pressure system well south of
the Bight will move slowly eastwards on Monday and extend a ridge over Victoria.

Friday:    Fine apart from early fogs in the south. A warm to hot and mostly
sunny day with light to moderate southeasterly wind and afternoon coastal sea
breezes.
Fire danger: Moderate to high in the south, grading high to very high in the
north.
UV Index: 10 [very high] decreasing 6 [high] under cloud
Saturday:  Early fogs in Gippsland. Patchy rain in the north and west later.
Generally warm.
Sunday:    Areas of rain and thunderstorms contracting eastward. Showers to
follow, mainly in the south. Becoming cooler with a freshening wind.
Monday:    Early rain in the far east. Showers in the south becoming isolated.
Cool to mild.

Fine. A mainly sunny day with light to moderate southeast wind and afternoon
bayside sea breezes.

Forecast for Port Phillip and Western Port
Friday:    Southeast to easterly winds around 10 knots in the morning. Afternoon
and evening seabreezes to 20 knots. Waves to half a metre rising to 1 metre
during the afternoon.
Saturday:  East to northeasterly winds of 10 to 15 knots shifting southeasterly
at 15 knots later. Waves half to 1 metre.
Sunday:    Southeasterly wind around 15 knots shifting southerly at 20 to 25
knots during the afternoon. 
Monday:    Southerly wind moderating to around 15 knots.
Headline Melbourne: Fine.
