Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Jan 3/09 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Warning Summary:
Strong Wind Warning for coastal waters north of Wooli and for south of
Ulladulla. Refer to www.bom.gov.au for the latest warning information.
Current Weather Situation and Future Developments:
On Sunday a high pressure system in the southern Tasman Sea will lead to
southeasterly winds on the far north coast with some isolated showers. A broad
low pressure trough will develop over inland NSW and remain over the state
until Wednesday, gradually moving to the northeast. However the associated
airmass is increasingly hot and dry during the early part of the new week.
Some isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms are possible on Sunday near
the trough, most likely about the Central and northern Southern Tablelands.
However, Monday and Tuesday look very hot and dry, and precipitation seems
unlikely. On Wednesday a change moves into western and far southern parts. This
change is unlikely to bring any relief to the heat except for the far southwest
and the South Coast. The change should bring some showers or thunderstorms to
the far southeast, but these are unlikely over the inland.
Forecast for Sunday
Isolated afternoon showers and thunderstorms about the central and adjacent
southern ranges, and possibly about a trough extending northwestwards through
the central slopes and plains. Hot in the west. Isolated showers also on the far
north coast. Fine elsewhere. Light variable winds inland. Southeast to northeast
winds along the coast, freshening in the south during the afternoon.
Fire danger: Very High in Riverina
Forecast for Monday
Chance of a few isolated showers on the far north coast, clearing. Fine
elsewhere. Hot with light variable winds west of the ranges, tending westerly.
East to southeast winds in the northeast corner, and northeast winds along the
remaining coast.
Forecast for Tuesday
Dry. Hot to very hot west of the ranges with westerly winds. Very warm to
hot about the coast and northern ranges with southeast to northeast winds.
Forecast for Wednesday
The chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms developing about the South
Coast and southern parts of the Southern Tablelands as a cooler southerly change
moves through. Fine and hot to very hot over the remainder, with increasing
northeast winds along the coast. West to northwest winds inland ahead of a
southwest change in the southwest. Raised dust likely over the inland.
