Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 31/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Monday 5 January 2009.
Warning Summary at issue time
Strong wind warning for Victorian waters between Portland and Cape Paterson.
Gale warning for Victorian waters between Cape Paterson and 60nm east of Gabo
Island.
Strong wind warning is current for Gippsland Lakes.
Strong wind warning is current for Western Port.
Strong wind warning is current for Port Phillip.

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system south of the Bight will move across Victoria during
Friday night before consolidating over the Tasman Sea during the weekend. A
trough of low pressure will develop over the north of the state on Sunday and
Monday.
Forecast for the rest of Thursday
Isolated showers on and south of the divide, mainly in West Gippsland. Cool to
mild with fresh west to southwest winds, stronger along parts of the coast.
Forecast for Friday
Isolated showers in the south clearing from the west. Cool to mild with
moderate to fresh south to southwesterly winds.
Maximum Fire Danger: High to very high in the north.
Forecast for Saturday
Fine. Warm to hot inland with light winds. Milder in the south with afternoon
coastal sea breezes.
Forecast for Sunday
Fine apart from isolated showers and the chance of thunderstorms about the
eastern ranges. Warm to hot inland with light winds. Milder in the south with
afternoon coastal sea breezes
Forecast for Monday
Fine apart from morning fog patches in the south. Light winds and afternoon
coastal sea breezes.
