Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 12/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

WARNING SUMMARY
Flood warnings are current for the Lower Warrego, Paroo, Alice and Barcoo
Rivers.
STATE FORECAST
for the rest of Thursday and Friday
Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics, more isolated
about the southern and central interior. Fine over the south-west. Light to
moderate SE to NE winds.
EXTENDED OUTLOOK
The high over the Great Australian Bight will move into the Tasman Sea on Friday
and will a build a ridge along most of the east coast over the weekend. This
ridge will gradually push most of the shower and thunderstorm activity into the
far northern and north-west areas of the state by Sunday. As the ridge builds
winds will freshen along most of the east coast and direct only isolated showers
into east coastal districts. The ridge will begin to weaken on Sunday as the
high moves towards New Zealand so winds will begin to ease from the south. The
bulk of the interior will become fine as a large upper air high develops over
central districts. Sultry conditions will continue over the northern tropics.
