Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Feb 12/03 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Flood warnings are current for the Fitzroy, Warrego, Paroo, Alice and Barcoo Rivers. STATE FORECAST for Thursday Scattered showers and thunderstorms over most of the tropics, more isolated about the south-east quarter of the state. Fine over the south-west. Light to moderate SE to NE winds. EXTENDED OUTLOOK The high over the Great Australian Bight will move into the Tasman on Friday and continue to build and strengthen the ridge along most of the east coast. This ridge will gradually push most of the shower and thunderstorm activity into the far northern and north-west areas of the state by Sunday. As the ridge builds winds will freshen along most of the east coast and direct showers into east coastal districts. The ridge will begin to weaken on Sunday as the high moves towards New Zealand. The bulk of the interior will become fine as a large upper air high develops over central districts. Sultry conditions will continue over the northern tropics. --- STAT News Service The subscriber version of the article is available by Clicking here
