Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 23/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Saturday 27 December 2008.
Warning Summary at issue time

telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A high pressure system will move over the southern Tasman Sea later Wednesday
then a weak cold front will pass just south of Tasmania early on Thursday. A
low pressure trough will extend from central Australia southeastwards to reach
Victoria Friday night and Saturday, ahead of a cold front that should affect
the State on Sunday.
Forecast for the rest of Wednesday
Fine apart from local morning drizzle in Gippsland and isolated afternoon
showers and thunderstorms about the far eastern highlands. Mild in the south,
but warm inland. Becoming generally sunny with light to moderate southeast to
southerly winds and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes.
Maximum Fire Danger: High to very high north of the ranges.
Forecast for Thursday
Fine apart from local early morning fog in the south. A mild to warm day with
generally light wind and afternoon coastal sea breezes
Forecast for Friday
Late rain in the west. Isolated thunderstorms developing over the northeast.
Hot inland with northerly winds, tempered near the coast by milder afternoon
sea breezes
Forecast for Saturday
Patchy rain, tending to isolated showers in the west. Isolated thunderstorms in
the west. Moderate northerly winds shifting southwesterly in the west.
Generally warm.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EDT Wednesday.
