Australia -- Queensland Weather UpdateMELBOURNE - Dec 23/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. IDQ1070001 WARNING SUMMARY Nil. STATE FORECAST for Wednesday Isolated showers and thunderstorms in a band from the NW to the SE this afternoon. Isolated early showers about the NE tropical coast. Fine over the remainder. Generally light to moderate NE to SE winds, SE/SW winds in the west and south. EXTENDED OUTLOOK Thursday, similar except a little patchy rain in the SW and increasing showers about the NE tropical coast. Showers also increasing over the SE with some thunderstorms associated with a SE'ly change. By Friday, the SE'ly change collapses over the SE coast but still generates showers and thunderstorms. Little change over the interior. Rain areas increasing about northern Cape York as a small low pressure system approaches north Cape York from the east. By Saturday, the tropical low crosses the far northern tip of Cape York with rain areas. Isolated showers over the SE, thunderstorms over the interior in a band from the NW to the SE. Rain areas developing from the west during the day. By Sunday, rain areas contracting to the east coast with isolated thunderstorms. Fine in the west. --- STAT News Service
