Continued Weakness On World Beans

VANCOUVER - Dec 19/08 - SNS -- International chickpea markets finished the week on a quiet note, with little fresh business reported and few importers showing interest in adding to current positions.

As with most pulses and specialty crops, buyers have been operating on a largely hand to mouth basis, unwilling to add to existing positions, especially with many buyers demanding prepayment for all or a portion of new business.

India's rabi season crop areas report some dryness, but shower activity is forecast for January in key rabi season production areas. This has exporters in the country optimistic they will have a good volume of product to market in 2009, inspiring a more aggressive marketing stance than was the case last year.
