Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Dec 11/08 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Western Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

for the period until midnight EDT Tuesday 16 December 2008.
Warning Summary at issue time
Severe weather warning for Alpine Areas, Western, North Central, Wimmera,
Central, West and South Gippsland, East Gippsland forecast districts.
Warning to sheep graziers for Western, North Central, Northern Country,
Wimmera, Central, West and South Gippsland, East Gippsland and Northeast
forecast districts.
Gale warning for Victorian waters between SA-VIC Border and Cape Otway.
Storm force wind warning for Victorian waters between Cape Otway and 60nm east
of Gabo Island.
Gale warning is current for Gippsland Lakes.
Gale warning is current for Western Port.
Gale warning is current for Port Phillip.
Details of warnings are available on the Bureau's website www.bom.gov.au, by
telephone 1300-659-217* or through some TV and radio broadcasts.
Weather Situation
A deepening low pressure system northwest of Adelaide will move southeastwards
over Melbourne early Saturday before reaching eastern Bass Strait late
Saturday. The low will continue to intensify and move towards the Tasman Sea
during Sunday. On Monday a high pressure will approach from the west.
Forecast for the rest of Friday
Rain with locally heavy falls across northern areas, extending to remaining
districts during the evening. Cloudy to overcast and generally mild with east
to northeasterly winds, strong about parts of the coast. Isolated thunderstorms
in the northwest.
Forecast for Saturday
Rain areas with heavy falls, contracting to the south and east. Showers to
follow in the north. Isolated thunderstorms in the southeast. Cool to mild with
generally fresh to strong northwest to southwest winds.
Maximum Fire Danger: Low.
Forecast for Sunday
Rain areas over Gippsland with possible heavy falls. Showers elsewhere, but
clearing from the northwest. Cool to mild with fresh southwesterly winds,
strong over parts of Gippsland.
Forecast for Monday
Showerss over Gippsland becoming isolated. Isolated showers over remaining
southern and mountain areas. Cool to mild with moderate southwest to southerly
winds, fresh at first in the east.
Forecast for Tuesday
Isolated coastal showers extending inland. Fine in the north. Cool to mild with
light to moderate westerly winds.
The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Saturday.
